Elliptic was founded in 2001 with the goal of becoming the world's leading supplier of security software and semiconductor IP offload engines. The team has significant expertise in security design gained from developing System-on-Chip designs and associated software at Chrysalis-ITS.

Over the last five years, there has been a significant convergence of security design based upon the efforts of the IEEE, the National Security Agency and the National Institute of Science and Technology. The convergence has focused on the Advanced Encryption Standard（AES）to replace the Data Encryption Standard（DES）and Elliptic Curve Cryptography（ECC）to eventually replace the RSA algorithm.

Initially Elliptic built a comprehensive library of crypto primitives for each security function. By building the cores from the ground up as opposed to deriving them from integrated circuits, a configurable design can be achieved that adapts very well to the SoC architecture used by customers.

Over the last two years, Elliptic has recognized that customers want to integrate a security sub-system which consists of an interface such as AMBA, DMA capability including bus mastering and sequencing logic to cycle plaintext through a cipher operation followed by an authentication operation. This has led to the concept of an embedded security module or PDU processor which offers a complete security solution tailored for a specific market.

Elliptic has also been building its software team and has now released Ellipsys its security library. Elliptic has also released a DTCP（www.dtcp.com）stack which is available for Linux and iTRON operating systems.
